Intro

So you’ve volunteered to be a Social Captain 😱 Don’t worry! You’re not expected to be an event planner - this one-page guide will get you through it.

Your responsibilities

#1. Create at least one social moment for your team each season.

It doesn’t need to be big. A pub trip after a game is simple and effective. All you really need to say is after the game finishes - “So… pub?”. Other ideas: coffee before training, group dinner, playing pickup at a public court, watching an WNBA/NBA/WNBL/NBL game, bowling, escape rooms, laser tag - whatever suits your team.

#2. Taking photos and videos during and/ or after the game.

It could be the classic sweaty post game selfie, it could be a video of a great play or even a shot of the scoreboard. - we just want to see those smiling faces. However, keep in mind not all players wish to appear in these photos, and that’s okay! We respect boundaries.

#3. Collaborate with your team.

Ask what types of socials they’d enjoy and can afford. Bring their feedback to your own planning as well as the wider social committee so club events reflect what people actually want.

#4. Get your team involved in club-wide events.

Encourage your team to show up to major events like Pride 3x3, trivia nights, and end-of-season parties. Your energy and reminders make a huge difference.

#5. Support mid-season cross-team catch-ups.

You may be asked to help with events like Drag Trivia or a club BBQ. Rally your team to attend and pitch in with small tasks if needed.

#6. Be part of the cross-team social committee.

This is where you’ll help plan and shape the club’s larger events throughout the year.

What we don’t expect from you

  • To run every social thing yourself. You’re a connector, not the whole party committee.

  • To spend your own money except for when you are paying for yourself.

  • To be at everything. Do what you can, and encourage others to take initiative too.
