What to Expect at Your First Train & Play

So you've decided to come along, great! Here's everything you need to know so you can show up feeling confident and ready to go.

Getting there

Head to the Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic Centre and note that Sydney Uni has multiple buildings and courts, so make sure you navigate specifically to the Aquatic Centre. Once you're inside, just ask at the reception desk which court the Sydney Spectres are on and the staff will point you in the right direction.

When you arrive at the court

Just walk up and say hi to anyone already there! Let them know you're here for the Spectres and we'll take it from there. You'll be introduced to the coach and paired up with a buddy who can help you find your feet, answer any questions, and make sure you're not just standing around wondering what's happening.

What we actually do

Sessions kick off with a few drills, nothing scary, just simple skills work to build confidence and get you moving. Then we put it all together with games. The whole vibe is low pressure and fun, with plenty of time actually on court. Whether you've never picked up a basketball or you're coming back after years away, you'll fit right in.

What to bring

  • Sportswear you're comfortable moving in

  • A water bottle and towel

  • A light-coloured top and a dark-coloured top (for splitting into teams)

  • Your basketball if you have one. We do our best to have spares but can't always guarantee it

Who's it for?

Everyone. All genders, all skill levels. Seriously, no experience necessary.

A note on RSVPs

These sessions are popular and always fill up, so your spot matters. If your plans change, please update your RSVP as soon as possible so someone else can take your place. Players who don't show up without cancelling may lose their ability to RSVP for future sessions.

Sessions are on Saturdays and are completely free. We can't wait to see you out there! 🏀
